In Module 0, I mentioned the importance of installing VMware Fusion/Workstation and setting up Kali Linux and Windows as virtual machines (VMs). If you haven't completed this task, please watch the video corresponding to your primary operating system (OS) for detailed instructions.
When we download Kali Linux, you will notice it is a 7z file. You might be unable to open this file by default on your computer. I suggest downloading and installing PeaZip. It is open source, so there is no licensing fee! Also, it runs on any OS.
Please follow the following steps to gain access to Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. This is the site you need to access to get a new key for Windows.
Open a new in private browsing window on your browser
Click on the blue “Sign in” button. Enter your school issued e-mail address along with the password.
NOTE: Please make sure to select the correct sign in options in case you have already converted your school issued email address to a Microsoft Personal accounts. Different sign in options (Work or School and Personal Accounts ) may have different password when they are created.
Upon signing in, you will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions (please make sure to check the ‘Tick Box' to avoid errors).
You should be directed to the Education Quickstart or you will be in the Azure Portal.
Click on the Software hyperlink on the left side.
If by chance an error occurs or you have troubles signing in with your UH Account please try the following:
Create a new Microsoft Account or use an existing one if you do.
Enter your personal e-mail address (gmail,yahoo, hotmail account etc) along with your preferred password and hit Next. A verification email with be sent to your e-mail address. (Note: Please check your spam or junk folders as the email might land to those folders)
Enter the code provided to verify your email address.
Once you have a personal Microsoft Account, please follow the steps provided below in accessing the Microsoft Education Hub.
Click on the blue “Sign in” button and enter the account details you just created.
You will be directed to a verification window.
Enter in your UH Email address.
Make sure to agree to the terms.
Check your UH email address and click on the verification link.
You should be directed to the Education Quickstart or you will be in the Azure Portal.
Click on the Software hyperlink on the left side.
Please watch the video tutorial to learn how to log in to access the VMware software site, download the necessary software, and install the VMware Workstation. Once the VMware Workstation runs, log in to the Microsoft site to download and install Windows 11. Finally, complete the setup by configuring Kali Linux as a virtual machine (VM).
